It is helpful as we look at the Amazing Grace and Mercy of God, to understand the doctrine of moral depravity.
A great article from theopedia.com stated, “The doctrine understands the Bible to teach that, as a consequence of the fall of man, every person born into the world is morally corrupt, and enslaved to sin. The doctrine of (moral depravity, or) total inability, teaches that people are not by nature inclined to love God with their whole heart, mind, or strength, as he requires, but rather all are inclined to serve their own interests and to reject the rule of God. Even religion and philanthropy are destructive to the extent that these originate from a human imagination, passions, and will.”
The Bible says it this way in Isaiah 64:6, “We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.”
In light of our own failures before the living God, His Grace and Mercy appear all the more Amazing!
