Independence Day United States

American Flag and Declaration of Independence

At the dawn of creation God formed man to enjoy an abundant life in perfect relationship, and in perfect harmony with Him. Like the first man, we all have chosen on our own accord to reject that perfect holiness in exchange for our own desires. This is called sin.
Sin broke our perfect relationship with God. Further it began to rule us. Like a tyrant sin demands we follow only after it. Sin brought us further and further away from the God we were created to know and love.
On July 4th 1776 America raised up an army to push off the brutal hands of British Tyrannical rule. The declared, “Independence!” On September 3rd 1783 the Paris Peace Treaty that marked the end of the Revolutionary War was signed. Freedom was won!
Nearly 2,000 years ago the King of kings, and the Lord of lords fought to shake off the chains of the tyranny of sin. He sent His Son as a mighty soldier to conquer sin and his companion death. God’s Son, Jesus, died in the battle and no doubt the enemy believed he had won. For three days the world mourned the loss of her hero as His enemies cheered.
As the ancient record records, “But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. 2 And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. 5 And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but has risen, (Luke 24:1-5a ESV).
Jesus rose victoriously from the grave and boldly declared, “Independence!” Next time you celebrate the Lord’s Supper, be reminded of the men who fought and died for your freedom in America! And give thanks to the Living God for Jesus the Christ who gave His life that we could once again enjoy an abundant life in perfect relationship, and in perfect harmony with Him! God bless you, and God bless America!
