Trimming Weeds

I came in the house covered head to toe in grass. I had just finished one of my least favorite jobs.

Trimming the weeds. We have a nice little house in the country where we have planted several trees and bushes. Our back yard is also fenced in. All of this means extra trimming for me.
The funny thing is, I love to mow. I wouldn’t mind mowing all day. I enjoy riding the tractor and being outside. I love the sense of accomplishment when I see the finished work, a nice neat lawn. Trimming on the other hand, I can’t stand. Using the weed trimmer takes hours. I get completely dirty, and I’m exhausted when I’m done. Even when I do the trimming around the trees, bushes, and fence with the push mower it takes a long time, and because the mower is missing a plastic cover my push mower gets me just as dirty as the weed trimmer. But boy does it look nice when the whole yard is neatly trimmed.
Our Spiritual lives can be just like my yard. There are some things that come easy to us, we love doing, and we are good at it. There are other things that are more of a struggle for us. We may even just let things go because we don’t like doing it. Yet, just like the weeds if we don’t take care of things God’s way we might find our lives over grown with sin.
So how about you? Are there some weeds growing up in areas that were once under control? Are there some areas where the weeds of sin have grown out of control and you have stopped trying to stay on top of it? It is time to do some dirty work. It is time to cut the weeds!
The Psalmist prayed in Psalm 139:23-24, “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts 24 And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!” May this be our prayer today!
Father in Heaven, I pray You reveal to me any sin that has grown up in my life that I may not be aware of. Give me strength and courage I pray to ruthlessly cut out the weeds that are choking out Your Holy will for my life. Yours is the Kingdom, may I live for Your Kingdom. Yours is the power, may I live by Your power. Yours is the glory, may I live for Your glory. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen!
